Irish Girls win Gold in ASA Regionals 2016

Well done from Clontarf to the Irish Girls team who came home with Gold from the ASA Regional Tournament held in Liverpool last weekend. A special mention to Robyn Joyce doing Clontarf proud and also well done to Sophie Moran who was Ireland MVP over the tournament. The group stages took place on Saturday 28 May, with Ireland leading the table in Group A, despite an early 3-4 loss to North West Thunder. Ireland won against Wales by just a goal in a thrilling 4-3 victory. A brilliant performance from Ireland in the semi-final saw the first clean sheet of the competition in a 7-0 shutout against the South East, booking their place in the final. A thrilling final followed, Ireland took the lead in the closing seconds of the first half, with Robyn scoring on a man-up. Aoife Hennessy found the back of the net early in the second half. Just seconds later, Aoife then scored her second of the game and Ireland held on to take their first ever victory in the competition, claiming gold. Well done again to all the Players, Coaches and Supporters who travelled over, great achievement for Irish Waterpolo. Well done from Clontarf.
