Clontarf Tournament 23rd/24th Jan 2016 Results
This weekend Clontarf Waterpolo Club held it’s annual Junior Waterpolo Tournament for players born 2003 and after. The atmosphere at the Guinness swimming pool was fantastic with over 160 players from all over Ireland and a visiting team from England, Sheffield. The Final was very exciting, with Sheffield bringing the trophy over the water as winners in the premier section for the first time in three years, congratulations and well done. It was a very trilling final which went to penalties, it finished 4-4 at full time against the Clontarf United team. This was the second time in the day that Sheffield faced penalties as Corrib A lost out for a place in the final, who eventually came 3rd winning out against Clonard who finished 4th. In the Plate 1 section Guinness went home with the trophy, winning against Drogheda, then in the Plate 2 final North Dublin won out against St. Vincent’s in a tight final with the score finishing 4-3 to North Dublin. Congratulations to all the teams and all the players in the tournament ranging from 7-12 years of age. Over the weekend we played 33 games, 452 minutes of waterpolo, the players scored 276 goals, the keepers probably saved as many. The standard had improved this year, the final and semi final showed this both going to penalties, also the group games were tight, with two decided on by goal difference, so the level between the teams this year did narrow, well done to all the players and coaches. Clontarf would like to thank all the teams who participated and to everyone who helped to arrange and support the tournament. See everyone next year, tournament results below.
