Brian Nolan from Clontarf SC fastest time in the Harbour

Well done to all Swimmers in the 86th Dun Laoghaire Harbour Swim yesterday 21st of August. With Clontarf just missing out on team prize with Dario Fernandez coming in 4th, and then in 6th place a fantastic swim by Brian Nolan with the fastest time of the day in the Men’s race. Pierre Tracey followed home in 16th Place for his first Harbour Swim, followed by Sean Nolan, Martin Reddington, Jorn Langhave, Jim Tracey and Colm Walsh all finishing in the top 100. Congratulations to the winners Josh Reilly from Sandycove in the Men’s race and Yvon McCarthy of Eastern Bay in the Women’s race. North Dublin also had a great swim winning team prize in the Men’s race with Bernard Sweeney 2nd and Gerry Wilkes finishing just behind Brian Nolan in 7th with the second fastest time of the day. Aer Lingus Masters took home the Women’s team prize. Also well done to Ciara Doran for fastest time in the Women’s race. Next Friday 26th August is the Clontarf Swim at the Bull Wall, Men’s Race 6.45pm and Women’s race 7.15pm, presentations in the Pebble Beach, Clontarf.

Best of luck to our Swimmers in the Dun-Laoghaire Harbour Swim this afternoon 21st August, men’s race starts at 2.30pm, before the race some of our junior swimmers will take part in a Children’s fun race at 1.30.

2nd place for Clontarf in the Siobhan McKenna Cup 14th August 2016

Well done to Colm Walsh from Clontarf for his second place finish in the Siobhan McKenna Cup held today 14th August 2016 at Killiney Beach. The Men’s race was won by Mick Mongey from St. Vincents and the Womens race was won by Siobhan O’Brien from NAC, congratulations to both winners. In the Men’s race Clontarf took home team prize with Colm Walsh, Jim Tracey, Alberto Placencia and Brian Nolan. Thanks to Half Moon for holding this great race and to the race sponsor former Irish Olympic Swimmer Donnacha O’Dea, son of Siobhan McKenna. 

On Saturday night North Dublin held the Jim Kavanagh and Plunket McAllister Cup, the Men’s race was won by Stephen O’Brien from North Dublin and the Women’s race was won by Catherine Leavy from Aer Lingus Master whose daughters play for Clontarf in Waterpolo, congratulations. Also well done to our young Swimmer 13 year old Philippe Tracey for finishing his first Open Sea Race Saturday night.

Finally to finish off a great weekend of Open Sea Swimming a big congratulation from Clontarf SC to Rachel Lee on swimming the English Channel in a fastest Irish Time of 9 hrs 40 min (to be ratified).

Next weekend on Saturday 20th August Clontarf hosts the Bobby Nolan Trophy at the Bull Wall, Men’s race starting at 1pm, Women’s race at 2pm, please come along and support. Then and on Sunday it’s the Dún Laoghaire Harbour Race.

Clontarf 2nd and 10th in the 97th Liffey Swim 2016

Great result for Clontarf in the 97th Liffey Swim. The Men’s race was won by Brian Murray of Eastern Bay with a clock time of 30 min 46 seconds, the Womens race was won by Jennifer Gilbert from Swim4life with a clock time of 32 min 34 seconds. Congratulations from Clontarf to both winners. For Clontarf we had a fantastic result: in the Men’s race with Dario Fernandez coming in 2nd with a clock time of 32 min 15 seconds and a race time of 26 minutes with a 6.15 handicap, amazing race passing 201 swimmers. The next man home for Clontarf was Sean Nolan coming in 10th, a brilliant swim also by Sean with a clock time of 33 min 30 seconds. Clontarf had a great number of swimmers competing this year with two young guns representing the Club in Sean and Pierre, see below results. A very big thanks to the Leinster Open Sea committee and everyone involved in this event, it takes a lot to organise, also thanks to Will Dolan and Joe Kearns for the photos, finally a big thanks to all our families and friends who came out in strong numbers to support us in this iconic race. More swims next weekend the Jim Kavanagh & Plunkett McAlister is on Saturday 13th August starting at 7pm along the Bull Wall and Sunday 14th August is the Siobhan McKenna at 12.30pm at Killiney beach.
